About the Role

We are looking for a CTO who wants a broad, hands-on, and strategic role in a growing company. You will be responsible for the overall technology direction at Videocation and play a key role in shaping and scaling our product and platform.

As the CPO’s closest sparring partner on technology and product, you will be central to strategic decisions, architectural choices, and prioritization. This is not a purely managerial role: while you will lead and inspire the tech team, you are also expected to be hands-on when needed, able to dive into the codebase, review pull requests, and contribute to technical problem-solving.

You will be instrumental in evolving our technical architecture, strengthening engineering practices, and ensuring that our technology supports both rapid experimentation and long-term scalability.

Your Responsibilities

Technology & Architecture

• Overall responsibility for Videocation’s technical architecture, codebase, and engineering standards
• Ensure a scalable, secure, and maintainable platform that supports continued growth
• Make and communicate clear architectural and technical decisions

Engineering Leadership

• Lead, mentor, and inspire the tech team
• Foster a culture of craftsmanship, ownership, and continuous improvement
• Set clear expectations for code quality, testing, and technical excellence

Product & Delivery

• Work closely with product to translate business and user needs into robust technical solutions
• Balance speed of execution with long-term technical health
• Take ownership of outcomes and results, not just timelines

Hands-on Contribution

• Stay close to the codebase and architecture
• Review pull requests and contribute directly when needed
• Support the team in solving complex technical challenges

Technology Stack & Platform

• Take ownership of our modern JavaScript-based stack, including frontend, backend, and cloud infrastructure
• Collaborate on decisions related to tooling, frameworks, and platform evolution

Our Tech Stack (Brief Overview)

Videocation’s platform is built on a modern JavaScript stack. We use React and Next.js on the frontend and Node.js with Express and GraphQL on the backend. Our data layer combines PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis, while authentication is handled through AWS Cognito with SSO support. Video processing and delivery are powered by AWS services, including MediaConvert, S3, and CloudFront. We also use Matomo for product analytics.

We Are Looking for Someone Who

• Has a university degree in computer science or a similar field
• Has extensive experience as a developer and a deep understanding of modern web architectures
• Is able to fully understand and take ownership of an existing codebase and system architecture
• Is hands-on and comfortable contributing to or reviewing code when needed
• Is proactive, motivated, and takes initiative
• Is visionary and able to inspire and align the tech team around a clear direction
• Has a strong product mindset and enjoys working closely with product and business stakeholders
• Has a high attention to detail and a strong sense of craftsmanship
• Is committed to results and impact rather than rigid schedules

Bonus:

• Experience with e-learning platforms or LMS solutions
• Experience building or integrating LLM-powered features
